The Hopper 3 is here!

The Hopper 3 is unlike any other DVR on the market.

The list of reasons to sign up for DISH is constantly growing, especially with the recent 3-Year Pricelock promotion available to new customers. Add the Hopper 3 and 4k to that already-enticing list, and you have the recipe for a phenomenal TV experience.

More tuners, more TV.

With the Hopper 3, you get 16 tuners and can connect up to 6 Joeys. That means you can have 7 TVs watching DISH, and still be able to record 9 other shows simultaneously. Or, watch 1 TV, and record 15 shows at once. Sitcoms, games, and movies - record it all at the same time with no interference. There's a lot of flexibility here, and even the most avid TV-watchers are going to struggle to hit that 16 tuner limit.

Not only does the Hopper 3 support 4k, but you can use the Mosaic feature to customize and watch 6 channels at once. Can't decide which News Network to watch? Now you can watch them all simultaneously.

New menu, better options.

The Hopper 3's user interface has been completely revamped in an effort to improve usability. The handy 'Menu' button takes you to a dashboard where you can select your favorite channels, TV shows, apps, or even search things like 'Critically Acclaimed Movies' or 'Movies with Leonardo DiCaprio.'

In addition, the Hopper 3 has an upgraded processor, making it extremely responsive and quick. Parental Controls have also been modified  to make TV management easier for parents.

Plus all these features.

  • HEVC decoding and 3D support
  • AutoHop skips ads on select recorded prime-time shows when you wait to watch them
  • Interactive TV with announcement stream capability
  • Up to 9-day picture-in-guide with optional widescreen electronic program guide (EPG)
  • Picture-in-picture
  • Name-based recording and advanced recommendation engine
  • TV Anywhere placeshifting via integrated Sling Technology
  • Transfer DVR recordings to an iPad using sideloading functionality from DISH Anywhere
  • Works with DISH Explorer second-screen app
  • Over-the-air (OTA) support via external USB-connected devices
  • Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth audio streaming
  • Over 70 SiriusXMTM music channels
  • Dolby Digital® support
  • Browser-based apps
  • Themes
  • On-screen caller ID with history
  • Favorites lists
  • Closed captioning and SAP support
  • Faster network and external hard drive access using GigabitEthernet and USB 3.0 ports
  • Upgraded embedded TSIO security
  • Targeted advertising via INVIDI
  • Viewer measurement
  • Set-top box health reporting
  • Temperature management
  • Software upgradeable via satellite

Final Thoughts

You simply won't find a better DVR on the market, and it won't hurt your wallet too much, either. There's not an extra monthly fee for having the Hopper 3 if you already have the Hopper DVR Service, and each additional TV is only $7/mo.  Pricelock for 3 years and DISH will throw in some Premium Movie Packages for 3 months, free, and give you a code to get Netflix free for a year. DISH has announced the release of a voice-command remote with a touch screen, so you'll finally be able to watch TV hands-free in the near future.
